QWO®

QWO® Cellulite Injectable

What is QWO®?

QWO® is the first and only FDA approved injectable for the treatment of moderate to severe cellulite in the buttocks of adult women. It has been studied for over 10 years. It can also be used “off-label” for moderate to severe cellulite of the thighs.

How does QWO® work?

Enzymes called collagenases target the structural causes under the skin, where cellulite starts. It is thought that QWO® works by releasing fibrous bands, redistributing fat cells and stimulating the growth of new collagen to thicken the dermis and smooth the skin. This process is known as Enzymatic Subcision and Remodeling (ESR).

How many treatments will I need?

QWO® injections will be given three to five weeks apart for a total of three treatment visits. Pictures are taken prior to the first treatment and at least 4 weeks after the third treatment.

How long do the effects last after a series of QWO®?

QWO® is FDA approved as showing effects for 1 year. Many patients are seeing results that last even longer.

Are there side effects of QWO®?

As with all medications, there are risks associated with this product. QWO® may cause serious side effects including allergic (hypersensitivity) reactions or anaphylaxis.

Almost everyone will experience moderate to severe injection site bruising. The bruising usually resolves in 1 to 2 weeks. It does not limit activities such as exercise. Applying ice to the treatment sites after the injections may help limit bruising and swelling. Many patients find that wearing a compression type garment (such as SPANX® or tight yoga pants) is also helpful.

Rarely, patients may experience prolonged shadowing of the skin while the bruises are healing. It is best to carefully avoid any sun exposure or tanning after your treatments during the healing process.
